BIRTH RATES: Mozambique, like most LEDC’s, has a high birth rate. This is due to less education and higher infant mortality. In 2012 Mozambique had an above average birth rate compared to the rest of the world. Averaging about 3 children per couple. Women had more children because a lot would not survive the first years of childhood.
ACCESS TO DRINKING WATER: Despiste the fact that Mozambique is a tropical country with many fresh water rivers the local population does not have clean drinking water. Less then half of the population can find clean drinking water. Most people drink water from rivers, therefor spreading disease. The trips to the rivers and back home are time consuming and mostly do not allow women to work or children to go to school.
LIFE EXPECTANCY: The Average life expectancy for a human in Mozambique is on the rise but is still very low. The average in 1960 was around 35 years old. In 2010 this number was raised to 49. The number is so low because of such poor quality of health and shelter. With more than 60% of the population living below the poverty line, diseases like malaria were common and food was very hard to come by.
